Young unaccompanied refugees and asylum seekers can join BHUMP
Your Social / Key/ Support Worker, Virtual School Officer, Foster Carer, would have completed a secure referral form on your behalf to refer you to BHUMP. If you have not yet been referred, you will not be able to access our services or free online courses. So please speak to your support worker and ask them to refer you.
- Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) are children and young people who are seeking asylum in the UK but who have been separated from their parents or carers. While their claim is processed, they are cared for by a local authority.
The funding that BHUMP is fortunate enough to get is specifically for supporting young unaccompanied refugees and asylum seekers. However, BHUMP still works with and involves other people in the community. i.e. activities involving non refugee young people, young volunteers and other individuals in the community helping out.
No. As mentioned above, the funding is specifically for supporting only young unaccompanied refugees and asylum seekers.
BHUMP works mainly with young people aged 16-21. We also work with young people up to the age of 25 if they continue to be supported by social services as care leavers.
BHUMP offers a range of structured, educational and recreational activities to ensure young people gain confidence, develop new skills and friendships in a non-judgmental environment. All activities provided are designed to build confidence, provide safe opportunities for sharing and development to enable their integration into British society.
We offer sessions which provide training to young people. These include, ESOL and Maths Lessons, Life-skills( group discussions; health workshops; basic hygiene, presentation skills, cooking, budgeting, creative writing, cv creating, art and drama), Volunteering opportunities, emotional support.
No, we do not deal with any immigration matters. However we can refer you to people who do.
Yes. We will consider all referrals for those living in the wider Hillingdon area. If you are still under the care of London Borough of Hillingdon but placed in a different Borough, we can still support you.
HRSG has an equal opportunities policy and we would encourage referrals of young parents who are unaccompanied. We will discuss with young parents the best way to cater for their needs.
We have an effective safeguarding policy in place ensuring that all staff and volunteers have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities when working with young people. We are committed to nurturing, protecting, and safeguarding all our young people. We recognize that all young people have a right to be protected from abuse.

Whilst trying to create an environment, which is conducive to English language learning, if need be, we can contact volunteer interpreters who can assist with other languages. However, our tutors are very patient and have worked with many young people with no English language skills.

We work with young people from all backgrounds and religions. The young people we work with come from every single country in the world you can think of where there is war and conflict.
